Samuel Micajah Landrum

Another death date and place: September 30, 1834, Hall County, Georgia.

Micajah was murdered by highwaymen.
According to the book "Samuel Landrum took a band of cattle to Atlanta, Georgia for a neighbor and sold them; he paid the herders and sent the remaining money, by express, to the neighbor, bought a few groceries and a dress for his wife.
He started home and when a few miles from Atlanta, he overtook three young men who complained of being tired. They had seen him sell the cattle and thought he had the money with him, and proposed to rob him. Mr. Landrum loved company, and fell easy prey to the would-be robbers. They took turns at riding, as only two could ride at a time.
When they came to a woods the one that was walking with him fell behind and struck him down with a sandbag, and killed him, and then dragged the body into the woods, and piled brush on it and set it afire. They then led the horse out of the woods and turned it loose. The horse became entangled in the trees, and the fire went out. The young men only secured fifty cents.
The three young men were arrested, and the one who killed him confessed and was hung; the others were given life terms. The one that was hung was named Crockett, and came from a wealthy and respectable family. His mother wrote Mrs. Landrum and begged her to plead for his life, but she said that she could not."
